Grand View Garden

Grand View Garden (Daguanyuan) is a 5 star park situated 65 kilometers from central Shanghai on the west bank of Dianshan Lake and occupies an area of 9 hectares with 8000 square meters of structures. Originally named Dianshan Lake Scenic Area, the name was changed in 1991 and the park increased in size to 100 hectares from the original 2. It is a major project for promoting socialist culture and ethics in Shanghai and has undergone numerous renovations. It is now a park combining sightseeing, tourism, and leisure activities. In 2000 it was recognized as a AAAA tourist site by the National Tourism Administration.

Grand View Garden is a large scale model ancient Chinese garden based on the description of the garden of the same name from the novel Dream of the Red Chamber and the design was overseen by Liang Yousong from Shanghai Landscape Architecture Design Institute. The park is centered around Grand View Pavilion and includes many of the buildings and scenes from the novel including 20 buildings such as Enjoyment Red Hall, Green Lattice Nunnery, Fragrant Pear Court, and even a stone houseboat.
