Former Residence of Dr. Sun Yatsen

The grey two-storey garden-style mansion is where Dr. Sun Yatsen and his wife Madame Soong Chingling had lived and worked together from June 1918 till the end of 1924. After Dr. Sun Yatsen's death in March 1925, Madame Soong Chingling lived on here until 1937. With pine, camphor and cypress trees planted around, most of the objects in the residence have been kept to their original state. It was here where Dr. Sun Yatsen met Lenin's envoy Joffe and jointly released the famous Declaration of Sun Wen-Joffe. Many of his important works were completed here such as The Doctrine of Sun Wen, The Industrial Development of China, The First Steps for Democracy. In 1961 the former residence of Dr. Sun Yatsen in Shanghai was listed as an important cultural spot under state protection by State Council. On the anniversary of Dr. Sun Yatsen's birth and death every year the commemorative meetings are attended by people from all walks of life in Shanghai.

It was here where Luxun had written many revolutionary and satiric exposes. Luxun's former residence is a Shanghai Municipal Preserved Building.
